Orchestras

City Music Center offers a four-tiered orchestral program to allow students to develop their ensemble performance skills in a sequential manner.

Reading Orchestra
The Reading Orchestra serves as an introduction to string ensemble playing where students can expand their music reading skills. String students age six and up are eligible to participate in this ensemble with their teacher’s recommendation. Orientation is held on the first day of class.

Intrada
Students in Intrada continue to develop their string ensemble technique, as well as learn to prepare for orchestral performances and auditions, follow a conductor, and blend within a section. Intonation and uniform bowing will also be addressed. A benchmark for readiness in Intrada is Suzuki Book IV or higher, although this is more of a guideline than a rule. Intrada is also available as an out of program class for students wishing to prepare for entry into TRYPO’s Symphonette orchestra. Click here to view Intrada’s Student and Parent Information Sheet.

TRYPO
City Music Center is proud to offer enrollment in the following Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras at no additional cost to any Traditional or Suzuki student who passes the audition. Please visit TRYPO's website for additional information about these orchestras.

- Symphonette
Symphonette is a string orchestra for students who are generally ages 12 through 18. It is a training ground for young, talented string players to learn to play together in an ensemble.

- Young Peoples Orchestra (YPO)
The Young Peoples Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra that focuses on performing the standard orchestral repertoire; it is open to students who are generally ages 14 through 18.

Choirs

Elementary Chorus

The Elementary Chorus is open to students in grades two through six who are able to read words. The ensemble will focus on the fundamental elements of music, including recognition of pitch and basic musical symbols, exploration of the differences between speaking and singing voices, vocal placement, posture, breath control, diction and embouchure.

CMC Chorale (Grades 7-12)

The CMC Chorale is designed to develop students’ performance skills through the rehearsal and memorization of vocal selections in three- to four-part harmony. Additional areas of instruction will focus on methods of proper and healthy vocal technique, as well as exercises and warm-ups geared toward building listening skills and development of good rehearsal habits. Students will be introduced to methods of vocal diction, vowel and consonant matching, and proper articulation of text in English and foreign languages in an ensemble setting.

Alternate Ensembles

Piano Ensemble

This course is designed for pianists who rarely have an opportunity to play in an ensemble, who would like to share music-making with their friends. Participants should be 11 to 18 years of age with a minimum of three years private instruction. Audition requirements: one solo piece of choice and sight-reading.

Guitar Ensemble

The Guitar Ensemble is an exciting class aimed at getting guitarists of all levels together to create music. The class will encompass a wide variety of styles from works written for ensemble and favorites freshly arranged for the class. Open to all age groups and levels, some experience in reading music on the guitar is preferred, but not required.
