I am so happy that this school exists. What happens at City Music Center is extremely important and everyone in Pittsburgh should know about it.

Welcome to City Music Center

Welcome to City Music Center, a community based, comprehensive music program, which takes place on Saturdays at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. Our students can range in age from 3 to 103 and represent varying skill levels, from beginner to semi-professional. Our students also vary greatly in their goals associated with their musical study. While I can confidently say that we are Pittsburgh's premier option for musical studies— with a highly experienced and effective faculty comprised of Symphony members, University faculty and local freelance teachers—the majority of our students do not come to CMC seeking a career in music. Most students are here simply to enjoy making music. Their parents see the value in our education as a developmental tool that will help their children in whatever career their future may hold.

The question I hear most often when speaking to prospective families is, “What do you mean by a comprehensive music program?” The answer comes down to the very heart of our musical philosophy. We strongly believe that any child studying music, regardless of their musical goals, should be exposed to a full compliment of musical disciplines. Each child that studies in CMC's full program has several classes included within his or her curriculum. These classes may include music theory and ear training, chorus, orchestra, eurhythmics, a small ensemble, performance class,or even group lessons.

Please take some time and explore our site. Hopefully we will have included the answers to many questions you may have. Some popular pages to visit include our, faculty listing, 2013-14 tuition, calendar and class schedule, and if you want to learn more about our offerings specific to your child's age, visit the Who We Are and What We Do pages.

If you would like to speak with me in person to learn more about our program, or if you would like to schedule a visit of our school, please feel free to contact me at cmc@duq.edu or call our offices at 412.396.5872. Our classes run throughout the academic year and most students can enter the program at any time.
